January 19, 2023

I'm thinking that instead of winter and snow scenes, I should put rain scenes because rain is all we seem to get.  Like today...it rained lightly all day long with the highs in the mid 40's!

I gave myself a gift this year.  It's not something I purchased but something far more important to me.  What was it?

Well, it was the gift of reading.  I decided that one of my goals was to read at least two hours a day, without any distractions, books that are important to me.  This reading slot is not for fiction unless it is important fiction like 'Beloved' by Toni Morrison.

Rather it is for books that make me question and think...think about anything and everything.  For instance, Neil deGrasse Tyson's book 'Starry Messenger''; or William Shatner's book, 'Boldly Go'; or 'Unbelievable' by Bishop John Shelby Spong.

Perhaps wanting to spend more time contemplating life's questions comes with age and that's why reading has become more important for me.  I find that giving myself permission has been a great gift.  I wish I had done it a lot sooner, even while working and raising a family.

We all have obligations and many of our schedules are tight, but if at all possible, I hope you will consider carving out time...even a short period of time...to spend reading.  And reading about a variety of subjects.  It will open your mind up to things you have never thought about...and it's fun!

I still listen/read fiction.  As a matter of fact, I have begun Patterson's 'The Women's Murder Club' series which is as interesting to listen to as as it was to read.  If you like Patterson's books, you may want to give this series a try.

I see that the daylight is creeping longer each day...not by a lot...but enough to notice week to week.  I look forward to a bit more light...these cloudy, gray days can get a bit much.

Hope you are all doing well...

Talk with you tomorrow...
