EMBROIDERY FLOSS, YARN BONBONS & FEBRUARY'S WORKSHOP

Remember when I told you that I straightened out my embroidery floss over the holiday season. Well, here's what I did...

Yep, I wound everyone of those little skeins onto a bobbin. I have to say, the bobbin winders were wonderful. The two top pictures are of my regular floss. The bottom one contains specialty floss like metallic, or single strand. Now I won't have to spend hours untangling floss. I can just pick out a bobbin and go. Nice, huh? Well, it's about time I bit the bullet and did it.

Oh, and have you heard about yarn bonbons. I first saw them in the Flying Tiger store (which I thoroughly love). But then I saw them on Amazon. (And no, I have no affiliation with either.) I like the idea of not having to purchase an entire skein of yarn if I only need a little bit. So here's my bonbon yarn box...

So, I finally decided on February's workshop. A winter scene with an embroidered tree. First I picked out the fabrics I wanted to use...

Then, I cut and arranged them on a backing fabric...

(Wow, that lavender polkadot fabric did not turn out well in this picture.) I then decided to hand sew the pieces down using a blanket stitch where the fabric meets and a running stitch all around the edges.

To add the tree, I first made a copy of the scene so far and then drew in the tree...

Finally, I lightly penciled in a couple main branches on the fabric and then using a running stitch, I begin embroidering the tree using three stands of black floss.

I'll continue adding large and small branches until I feel the tree is full. I am also thinking of adding another embroidered feature...maybe a snowman (or woman), or a rabbit, or a deer. What do you think?  I need to finish it this week so I will be sure and post a picture of the finished scene.

That's all for today folks...
Thanks for listening to me ramble...
Hope to see you back tomorrow...
