APPLIQUE & CANDY CANES

Hi everyone.  I hope your weekend was wonderful. I had planned on posting yesterday but after attending my Monday artists' group, I took some time to enjoy the city since the rain had been replaced by sunny skies. It was cool but comfortable (with winter jackets).

The Monday group is putting together a show. The only common theme is to use a 12 inch square canvas. I decided to try my hand at applique. I choose a stylized peacock surrounded by fall leaves. This is what I have so far...
Once I finish adding the orange and red leaves, I am going to bling it up with lots of gold trim and beadwork. It's a little out of my norm but I thought it was a good time to stretch and practice my techniques.

I am doing a bit of cheating. I cut out the pattern pieces in paper, glued them to the fabric, cut around with a quarter inch seam allowance. I then glued the seam allowance, after clipping, to the paper on the back side and pressed. BUT instead of removing the paper, I am leaving it in. After all, this is a wall hanging, not a quilt so it won't get washed and it raises the appliqued pieces.

Remember the centerpieces I made for the Holiday Party that didn't happen? Well, I made another one today.

Why? Because on Saturday, I will be celebrating Christmas with family in Maryland. This was scheduled earlier but canceled due to the flu. So, I thought I would make one to bring and fill it with some of the candy canes I purchased for the Holiday Party. The centerpieces will keep until next year but not the candy. And I have given out as much as possible to folks around here.

That's it for today...
Thanks for following my blog...
