April 1: What Inspires You?

Rain...yep...that's what's happening...rain.  And wind!  It's a bit warmer than the past couple of days, but still...rain!  I am wondering if I will need webbed feet to get around soon?!

I have been packing, getting ready for the move this summer.  Still no place to go, but I don't want to have to hurry and pack in a week, so I am doing it slowly...two or three boxes a weekday.

Well, I was sorting some of my fabric to see if I want to keep any out or if I should pack it all when I ran across a set of stack and whack blocks along with the fabric to make strips in between each block.   And you know what happened don't you.  I began making strips and then I sewed the strips together and before long I had the top done.

I want to use it as a light weight quilt so I backed it with a fleece throw...actually it took two throws.  The quilt is bigger than a single bed quilt but smaller than a full size one.  I put the back and front together envelope style.  Then I sewed all the way around the edge about a quarter inch in and then again on the inside of the border.

I decided to stitch in the ditch around each block with the sewing machine.  Here's what it looks like...

And here's the fleece backing...

I will be finishing this quilt up by this evening.  And then I found another smaller set of blocks that I am going to make into a table runner...

So, finding the blocks inspired me to finish them.  (I think I was tired at looking at the blocks also!!!). As you can see inspiration comes from just about everywhere you can think of...all you have to do is pay attention, listen to yourself...and then follow through with the inspiration.

And that's where the rubber meets the road...following through with what inspires you.  How many times have you been inspired by something only to talk yourself out of following through?  Excuses like, I'm not good enough to do that; or, I don't have time right now; or, what will other people think if I do it; etc., etc., etc.

Remember the quote, 'the longest journey begins with a single step'?  Well, that works with inspiration.  An inspiration begins with first being willing to try it out.  Then planning on how to accomplish it.

Remember the files I had to research through...I really didn't want to take the time to put the papers in order, but once I began, I realized that it wasn't such a big deal after all.  And the plus will be that the next time I need information, it will take just a couple minutes...not hours.

So when you stumble upon, find, or be motivated by an inspiration...follow through and try it out.  Who knows you might like it and find it enjoyable and satisfying.

Have a great weekend...

Talk to you on Monday...

Happy April...
