We lost a lot of snow yesterday and today it's forecast to be warmer.  We also have rain in the forecast in a couple days.  I think the current crop of snow will be short lived and gone by next week!

The shooting in the Twin Cities yesterday was very disturbing both in what happened to the young mother and the rush to judgement by the government.  I am proud of the fact that the folks who gathered after the event were peaceful and nonviolent.

It's another event in a long list of questionable events that continue day after day which contributes to the depressed feeling throughout our nation.  Folks are tired.  Add to that the economic situation that many of us find ourselves in and you can understand that depressed feeling.

Well, changing subjects, today is craft day.  There's a quilt store in Forest City, Iowa called The Quilted Forest and they have a year long project challenge.  The idea is to find twelve projects, many UFOs, and put them in project boxes with all the supplies and labeled for each month. Then draw a number from one to twelve and work on that particular month's project, finishing it.  They used a very nice purchased rolling container for all the projects.

I like the idea very much with one exception...purchasing a cart to contain the projects.  If money is not an object, then purchase one.  But if money is tight but you still want to participate in the challenge why not make your own project containers out of heavy cardboard boxes like this one...

If you do not get boxes through the mail, you can actually purchase small boxes from a variety of places quite inexpensively, but you can also pick up free ones from small stores.  And there's no limit on the size of boxes you choose to make.

I like to reinforce the boxes by cutting off the top flaps and adding them inside to the box sides using both glue sticks and a glue gun.  I also add a piece of cardboard to the bottom of the box between the flaps...

Once the boxes are reinforced, I cover them with fabric.  And to be honest a lot of the fabric I use for these boxes come from thrift stores...either drapes or bedding or very large pieces of clothing.  Again, I use both stick glue and a glue gun.

If you don't have fabric, you can cover the box with decorative paper, paint it with craft paint or even leave it plain.  Here are two that I have covered with fabric...

I have several more boxes ready to cover and lots of fabric that I would only use in this manner.  If you've read my blog for a while, you know that I have always loved to make fabric covered project boxes.

There's no right way to actually cover a box.  I like to cut the fabric in a way to use as little as possible and then use a glue stick to adhere to the sides and bottom, both inside and outside, and a glue gun to secure the edges with a finished edge on the outside of the box but an unfinished edge on the inside.

You don't have to limit these boxes to projects, you can use them throughout the house in different ways.  In the bedroom, to hold makeup or a place to put your watch or glasses.  In the office a place to put your stationary, or pens/pencils, etc.  Living room? A place to put remote controls.  Etc. Etc. Etc.!!!

Have an amazing day...

Talk with you tomorrow...
