The weather is forecast to be warm today with a high of 40. The next eight days will be in the 40's including mid 40's with two days 39. This warm up is called the 'January Thaw' and it usually lasts around a week. Going to be interesting to see if it lasts longer this year.
So I did change the studio. I still have to work on organizing the small drawers but I think this change may work. There's an area for sewing, an area for junk journaling and an area for computer work. And the daybed is still in the room. Check this out...
To the right of the area with all the small drawers is the printer and then three tall shelves with supplies. These contain supplies that are all labeled which is nice. I took down several wall hangings and still need to rehang those. (Note: I hang them with tiny pins that are so small there are no visible holes and yet they stay up.). I think this arrangement may work. One note: When I work on larger fabric wall hangings or quilts (i.e. getting ready to quilt them) I use the large table set up in the exercise room.
Reorganizing. If something is not working for you don't be afraid of reorganizing to find an arrangement that does work. And it may take more than one time. (I'm on my fourth studio reorganizing!) It can be in any area like the kitchen or living room or studio. The frustration of trying to work in an area that is just not conducive to how you work can lead you to make mistakes or even stop working.
Or maybe you just need a new perspective. The old organized area may have worked for you but you feel the need for something different. It doesn't have to include new items. It can simply be moving around your things to a new arrangement. And what better time to find that new perspective than the beginning of a new year!
No matter why you feel the need to reorganize, first take some time to figure out what does and doesn't work for you. Do you like things jumbled together or do you like specific areas (i.e. one for sewing, one for painting, etc.). Do you need/have a space for supplies? Are they easy to access/find? Is there one main activity or are there several? What is the most important need for the activity.
For instance, when I work on sewing quilt blocks, having a place close by to press them when done is important so I have a table top ironing pad and iron next to my sewing machine.
I like to think about how I want to reorganize and then visualize what it can look like. Not everyone works that way, though. Some folks may just want to roll up their sleeves and start changing things around until they find an arrangement that works. Whatever way you like to work I hope you will take the time to do it. Remember that keeping an arrangement that does not work for you benefits no one, especially you.
Have a wonderful day...
Talk with you tomorrow...
