A MONTH OF DECLUTTERING: (28 DAYS)
I have more things than I need. And sometimes I wonder if those things are taking up space in my life that I would like to use for other activities. Those things cost money (even if bought at tag sales.), take up space AND take up time (think cleaning, arranging, etc.) Stop and think about what your ancestors had in the way of things in their house. For most of us, our grandparents had a lot less and for the most part, didn't miss what they didn't have.
True, today's society is much different that our parents, grandparents, etc. But we may have gone way too far on the opposite end with far too many things. I am not suggesting that you live a spartan life and get rid of everything. Just think about getting rid of those things that you really don't need or want anymore.
A general rule to think about is if things give you pleasure, are important to you or provide service, then keep them. If not, or if you have duplicates, think about giving them a home elsewhere.
One blogger I follow got rid of 2,024 items in 2024! Think of how much you could declutter by just getting rid of one item a day. There are 365 or 366 days in a year...that could add up.
The challenge this month is to declutter one thing a day (more if you want) but at least one thing. And, I only want you to take a few minutes each day...five should do it. If you definitely want to donate or discard an item put it in the appropriate box. If you're not sure about getting rid of something but you are considering doing so, put it in the considering box. When the month is up, pack that box away for three months and then go through it again to finally decide.
The first thing to do is set up a convenient area with three boxes. Label the boxes as follows: 'DONATE', DISCARD & CONSIDERING. When you pick up an item to declutter, place it in the appropriate box. At the end of the month, you should have a total of at least 28 items to either donate, discard or consider. Where to declutter from each day are suggestions, if you want to substitute for any please do...just try to declutter at least one item per day.
