What Do You Do With Your Fabric Scraps?

I was watching an interesting episode of Georgia Bonesteel's Lap Quilting Show a couple days ago.  It was about fishermen's coats.  One of the coats had  obviously been repaired many, many times.   Georgia Bonesteel explained that fabric was highly valued and rather than throw any fabric away, it was repeatedly repaired.

That got me thinking about how many times I have gotten rid of scraps of fabric.  Remember the pile of leaves wall hanging I was working on?

Well, I was wondering how much scrap fabric there was?   To be honest, there was a lot more than I thought there would be.   I was going to use the scraps for ATCs, but after looking at the amount, I realized there was more than enough for ATCs.  So first I made this large journal cover...

There was still a lot of fabric left, so I made this journal cover...

And these ATC's...

And I still have this left from the scraps...

Looking at the three containers above, the large one (a cake cover) has enough large pieces to make three more journal covers.   The small one at the bottom of the picture has enough pieces of fabric to make a dozen more ATCs.   The small container at the top has the tiny scraps that I will include in the next batch of paper I make.  All this from the scraps of one project!!!

This was an eye-opener for me.   I have always been careful with my use of fabric, or at least I thought I was!   I'm not advocating that everyone make use of every last scrap of fabric they have; but for me, I am going to at least be more conscious of how I use and cut fabric and what I do with scraps.   Who knows, maybe there is someone that may want those tiny scraps.

I hope you have  a great weekend.   Thanks for dropping by....you're always welcome.
