I spent a lot of time quilting this past weekend and I have fallen in love with gold metallic thread. Of course, I was pulling my hair out when I first began.
I have a very simple sewing machine....it goes forward and backs up, has a stretch stitch and a zigzag stitch, I can change the needle position, change the stitch length and most important, the feed dogs drop but that's about it. It does not have a nice easy stitching motion and it did not like metallic thread at all.
But after adjusting the tension - both top and bottom - and putting a piece of paper around the spool of thread - I got it to work. Here are some pictures of the landscapes and journal covers.
I could see that my quilting stitches were getting better with each piece. One of my disappointments was that I did not like the borders on the landscapes. I tried it on three of them and now I have decided that I would remove those borders and try something else. Perhaps a darker border...any suggestions?
I have been wanting to try something different creatively. So I am making a fabric journal.
These are the beginnings of four pages using fabric collage. I've never attempted a fabric journal before, but I am looking forward to enjoying myself. I'll post pictures as I work on it.
I'm curious about what most of you listen to when you work in your studios. I used to listen to music most of the time, but lately I have really gotten hooked on listening to old time radio shows. My favorite place to find the shows is the Internet Archive - they have tons of radio shows along with lots and lots of other things....and it's free.
I hope you had a great weekend. Thanks for dropping by.
