News, Journaling and Inspiration

It didn't snow today...(imagine me jumping up and down in joy right now)...of course, there is snow still on the ground...but at least no more was added.   Stay tuned tomorrow...

I have to tell you that I am a news addict...and the news (well, let's just say that it is a bit...oh, get real, a lot...disconcerting) is not helping my creative endeavors.   So, lately I have turned off the news during the day and listened to AOL radio and it has made a lot of difference.

What am I listening to?   Nature Sounds.   Crazy, right?   But I love the water sounds be it rain, river, oceans or whatever.   Very soothing to me.   As a matter of fact, I am listening to it as I am writing.   If you're like me and have been listening non-stop to news, why not give it a break and see if it helps your endeavors.

I managed to work on three journal pages since last Tuesday.   First, on the journal page 'Patching the Empty Holes with Scraps of Life' I added 'patchwork stitches' with a marker.   To me it finished off the page nicely...at least for the time being...

On the next page I used some puzzle pieces from an old puzzle.   This page began with an acrylic base coat of gold and yellow.  The yellow sheet in the middle is a paint chip card from which I cut out one inch squares for my inchie swaps.   Pretty neat!   And I almost threw it away.  This page is called 'Putting together the puzzle that is life!'

The last page is on watercolor paper.   I first used small ink stamps and swiped them across the paper for the background   Then I added junk pieces of mail and some butterfly stamps...

I don't know about you, but there are times when I look at a journal page and either have nothing to put on it...or, lately...so much that I don't know where to begin.   So taking a cue from others and trying to find a way to get started, I decided to create an 'Inspiration' jar.   And trying to be frugal and I used things at hand.   This is what I came up with...

An empty jar...

...to which I added some scraps of adhesive paper ribbon...

...plus the word 'Inspiration' and a few butterflies...

...and then lining the inside and cap with left-over tissue paper (I used Mod Podge) plus some small pieces of ribbon and ric rac on the cap...

...and finally cutting these words apart and folding them in half and placing them in the jar.   Voila!!!

I wasn't too sure what to put in the 'Inspiration Jar'.   First I considered questions.   Then suggestions for lists.   But I finally decided to just put single words and let my mind travel in whatever direction it wanted to go.   I think it will help me focus...what do you think?   Do you ever use a tool like this to help you get started on a journal page?

As you can see, my camera is still not taking great pictures.   I'm not sure that a new camera is in the budget right now...will have to see if I can find an older one to work with for a while.

Thanks for stopping by...hope your day was productive and enjoyable.   Take some time to relax and maybe listen to some sounds of nature...
