Decorating a Deck...

It was finally warm enough to work outside including planting a few herbs.   The deck outside my room was sadly in need of some encouragement...

I didn't want to buy new furniture so I used what was available - a table and some benches and a swing frame.

First I purchased an inexpensive plastic tablecloth.   Unfortunately it was not one with elastic to keep it from blowing off.   So, I sewed a 3 inch hem all around and pulled some string through the hem.   I could then pull the tablecloth tight underneath the table.   So far it has stayed on and believe me, there is a lot of wind here...

I planted some herbs in baskets and a planter and added a couple hanging baskets of flowers.   In Maine I picked up some inexpensive (cheap) solar lights to use outside.   I enjoyed them so much that I picked up three and put them in the hanging baskets and the tabletop planter.   I'll let you know how they look tomorrow.

This is what it looks like now...
The little yellow planter on the table is what I use to plant oats in for the cats to eat.   And I have always had a gnome in my garden for as long as I can remember.   Here he is on the table holding a sign that says 'Joy'.

There is an umbrella, but I can only put it up when I'm outside because of the wind.   All-in-all, I have some windchimes, a birdfeeder, a birdbath, some plants and a place to sit and sketch.   I think that will do for now and best of all, I spent very little money.

Simple living for me always includes some type of outside space and a few plants.   Yes, I would like to have a vegetable garden, but that is not possible at this time, so the herbs are my nod to a garden.

So what's important for you to include in your plans for simple living?    I love birds.  I love plants.   I love the outdoors.   And I love to have a place to sit outdoors.    Check, check, check and check.   I think my simple living need for outdoor space is just fine.

So how can you implement your special place in your simple living plans?   I'd love to know what special places are important to you.   Drop me a comment and let me know.
