January 26: Mindfulness

No, this isn't recent, but it may be what things look like this weekend.  There is a winter storm 'bomb' that is intensifying to the strength of a powerful hurricane.  And it's going to hit the northeast...doesn't sound too good.

So how are you doing with mindfulness?  Have you found a technique that works for you?  If so, great.  If not, here's another way you can focus.  It's called a 'labyrinth'.  It's basically a circle that has paths to walk both into and out of quietly, mindfully.

Well, it's winter and kind of cold to walk outside right now, so there here is one that you can trace with your finger...

First of all, google labyrinth patterns and choose one that you want to use and download it.  You need two fabrics plus batting...

Next trace the pattern you choose onto the fabric...

Either use a close zigzag stitch on your sewing machine or embroider with dark thick thread or yarn and cover over the pattern.  Add a quick binding and you're done...

To use this technique, trace the pathway with your finger, focusing on the path.

Once again, being mindful is focusing on the present, right now, and leaving yesterday and tomorrow for another time.  It helps relieve anxiety and increases a calm feeling...kind of a break from all those sometimes unwanted thoughts that can bombard your mind.

Talk with you tomorrow...
