April 8: Simplifying Your Home

Sunny today with high in the low 60's...but last night...wow, what a downpour.  And we now have flood warnings for the rivers in the area today.

Do you journal?  I do and I love it...not every day but when moved to do so.   Below are my latest pages...

Last night, during the rain storm, I played with some Derwent Inktense blocks.  I used a brush and water and heavy weight white cotton.  It was fun and I plan on using this technique in some of my fabric art.  Here are my experimental samples.  They are about five by five inches.

Today is the last day to consider simplifying your home.  We talked about making a plan, about how to handle sentimental items and items you are undecided about.  Today, let's look at the benefits.

First of all, less stuff takes less time to clean, repair, rearrange and organize.  Personally, I love the idea of less cleaning but you may appreciate less stuff to organize.

Second, less stuff means less money spent (even if you buy used) and more important, less time to take care of all of it.

Third, less stuff gives you the ability (and time) to focus on other things...things like spending time with children, having lunch with friends, starting that exercise routine, reading a book or trying a new craft.

Fourth, making decisions on what to keep and what to donate gives you courage to do the same in other areas of you life.

Fifth, with less 'stuff' comes less stress and more capacity to relax.

Looking at that list, you really can't go wrong in simplifying your home.  Remember, though, each of us has a different definition of simplification as well as a different way to do it.

So take another look at your home and decide what simplification would fit your needs and then do it.

Next week we will look at another area to simplify.

Talk with you on Monday...
