June 27: Summer Enjoyment

Well, the weekend was warm...make that hot...but today, it's dark, cloudy, windy, rainy and cold.

Interesting that the 1/6 Committee has added a hearing for tomorrow after postponing and delaying more hearings until July.  Wonder what changed their minds?

So, Monday's focus is a question to consider during the summer months.  The question?  Have you considered trying meditation?

What is meditation?  It is actually the act of meditating which means contemplation or reflection.

And what does meditation do for you?  Well, it can help you relax.  The Mayo Clinic advises that it is the best way to reduce stress.  It helps you focus on the present (which remember is all the time you really have...right now!) but it increases your creativity in a variety of areas, as well as patience and toleration.  Basically, it's just good for you.

How does one meditate?  Well, it begins with finding a place and time to just sit quietly.  Most suggestions include beginning to concentrate on your breathing and/or what's around you.  When other thoughts come into your mind, acknowledge them and then dismiss them.  (Actually hard to do at the beginning but it does get a lot easier.)

Also, start out slowly with a short time span of say ten minutes and build to whatever is comfortable for you.

I use meditation apps which use a few commands and then music.  Check out which apps may be best for your situation.  There are a number of excellent free apps to choose from...just google free apps for meditation.

With the advent of summer last week, meditation may be just the thing to help you relax your way to less stress and more fun.  (And considering the latest political events, it may be just what you need to stay sane!)

Talk with you tomorrow...
