December 12, 2023

Wow, the days have really been crazy around here...and it begins early in the morning!

Sorry that I haven't posted as often as I normally do...but as I said, things are crazy.

We finally have some typical weather...make that cold.  Highs in the high 30's and low 40's.  Still have rain in the forecast, though!

So, I did get the house decorated and I was able to put up some of my favorite decorations.

The tree is in a corner in front of a window so folks driving by one way can see the lights.  Since it is in a corner, I did not decorate it all around with the exception of the lights.

The presents are all here and many are wrapped.  I want to finish that this week so next week I can focus on baking.  Requests are fruitcake cupcakes, wedding cookies, the brown sugar refrigerated cookies and cranberry pudding.  Also, fudge and a maple/nut candy roll.  (My aunt used to make the candy roll at Christmas.  My other aunt would make and wrap caramels.  Both of those confections were great.  And one of my grandmas would make shortbread drop cookies with pink frosting and a nut in the middle of the frosting.  Ah, what wonderful memories.)

I was watching a video on Christmas traditions and one thing they explained was what sugar plums were...basically fruit and nut balls rolled in sugar.  All you need is dried fruit like dates, raisins, cranberries, apricots, etc plus some nuts, a food processor and some sugar.  No baking.  I am going to make some...it sounds good.

I have also been using the Christmas simmering potpourri...makes the house smell so nice.

The only crafty thing I have done has been crocheted snowflakes.  Now that I don't need so many, I have been trying different patterns.  Check these out...

I do like the way these turned out.  I am running out of white yarn...going to have to pick up some this week.

Potato soup is on the menu for supper tonight...one of my favorites.  I am also going to make a recipe that I found in one of my Christmas Books.  It calls for two types of corn and cornmeal.  Sounds like it would go good with the soup.

That's it for today...

I hope to get back to regular posting...

Talk with you tomorrow...
