January 24, 2024

We got rain...not ice!  The snow is disappearing.  More rain and even warmer temperatures are forecast.  It's already in the high 30's and heading for the mid 40's...with more rain.

It's the rain I am a bit concerned about.  We are bound to have higher rivers and more flooding.  There just does not seem to be any break from rain around here.

Yesterday, I weatherized two of the old windows...something I usually do earlier in the year.   But with the cold temperatures last week/weekend, it was apparent that I needed to do it.  As I have said many times, this is a really old house with very leaky windows.  So I added a plastic film on the inside of two windows around the casing with double sided tape and then using a heat gun I shrink the plastic film so it is tight.  It really does keep the cold at bay.

I finished my current fiction book...'A Christmas Jigsaw Puzzle' by Alexandra Benedict.  It was an interesting book about an 80 year old woman, crossword puzzle creator, who found herself having to solve a puzzle to save lives.

Today I am going to start another one of Alexandra Benedict's books called 'Murder on the Christmas Express'.

I managed to make a chicken pot pie using leftover chicken from yesterday's meal along with some vegetables and the gravy I made.  Tasted pretty good.

I looked for miniature flowers and Easter Eggs today and could not find any.  I did pick up some artificial flowers with smallish buds and flowers which I plan to take apart and use in my baskets...

None of the eggs were small enough so I guess I will make my own out of paper clay.

Speaking of spring holidays, did you know that Easter is in March this year?  March 31st to be exact.  That means that Mardi Gras Day is February 13th.  The Carnival season actually lasts much longer.  It began on January 6 and will end on February 13th.  It's already going on folks.  All I can say is this year has really accelerated its spring celebrations.

Speaking of Spring...the first day of Spring is March 19th.  I have noticed that even with overcast skies, it is staying lighter longer...a welcome relief from the dark days of winter!

That's all for today...

Talk with you tomorrow...
