Hope things are going well for you and that you are getting done exactly what you want to get done.
I opened all the boxes we brought in yesterday. There were some things already designated to be donated but the rest are mainly knick knacks plus two Christmas boxes which held the things I was looking for. As I was opening the boxes, I heard a clock! Yep, it was the clock that was on the mantle piece over the fireplace at the old house! Still working!
So today, I will finish packing up the Christmas decorations upstairs, discard the old tree (I would save it but it's very old and sheds the all the plastic greenery.) and then put out or store the things from the boxes we just brought in.
This is only 9 inches wide and 11 inches long and it's a free hand cut, raw edge assemblage It's very easy to make. Simply gather the fabric that you want to use. In this case, blue for the sky, several shades of turquoise for the sea and a few shades of tan for the beach.
Both the sand and the sea go from light to dark. I did add a couple clouds to the sky, a boat on the horizon plus a few fussy cut sand elements. After laying out the piece in a design you like, add a piece of fabric for the back and low loft batting between the front design and the back piece of fabric, then add tulle on the front. In this case I used white tulle with sparkles. The tulle is what holds the design in place.
Then pin and stitch. I used a silver metallic thread and stitched in specific areas (i.e. the edges and around all elements like the boat, clouds and shells.) with a tiny zigzag stitch. You could stitch in a design or randomly. I did hand sew around the stars, but the rest was done with a sewing machine. The only thing left to do is add a binding.
A couple sewing machine tips: If you are using a metallic thread, only use it on the top. Use regular thread in the bobbin. Also, use a needle specifically for metallic thread. It will save time and frustration as regular needles can sometimes cut metallic thread.
Another prompt for The Month of Getting It Together is posted. (Remember, to see the sidebar, you need to use the web version when reading this blog.). I am a bit behind on a few of the prompts (i.e. password book and updating contacts) but working on them when I have the time. See, I don't even get all the prompts done in a day!
Enjoy your day. Be sure to take time for yourself.
Talk with you tomorrow...
