One of the most important things to do today is to vote...have you voted?  Do you have plans to vote or did you vote early?  I'm going to vote around 10am this morning.

Voting is an important part of keeping our democracy.  It generally only happens once a year so that's not really too much to ask of our nation's citizens.  The old saying, 'Use it or lose it' could easily apply to our democracy.  It's up to you but I sure would like to keep our democracy...hope you do to!

As I said yesterday, I will be focusing on inexpensive ways to handle both everyday activities as well as celebrations.  Today I want to look at presents for children.  The earlier you start purchasing presents the bigger selection you will find.

All of us have discount stores close to us and they are the first place to look and the best items to consider are what they call 'loss leaders'.  Basically loss leaders are highly advertised items that are priced so low that the store will not make money on them, but they will draw in customers to purchase other things.  Shopping loss leaders will benefit your pocket book.

Dollar Tree Stores are another place to shop.  I have no relationship with this store, but they are the cheapest place around to look for things like toys, presents for others, wrapping paper, decorations, etc.

They no longer offer items for a dollar but most things are between $1.25 and $1.75.  Still really inexpensive.  Notice however, they now carry bonus items which are considerably more.  I also noticed that the Dollar Tree Stores around this area have greatly reduced their toy items so shopping early will give you a better selection.

Here's a selection of items that are $1.50 except the colors which were $1.25...

Notice that there are items that could also be used for adults.  And the store I went to had several Judy Blume books which would be great for preteens and young teens.

Here's a selection of toys and puzzles at $1.75 each...

You will even find toys for babies.  And I have seen several stuffed animals at the stores also.

Finally, for older children (and even adults) there are lots of journals, drawing pencils and tablets, note cards, small notebooks all of which were either $1.25 to $1.50...

I have shopped in their beauty and bath areas and put together a very nice 'spa box' for $5.00.

Other places to shop are thrift stores.  I go to GoodWill often and although the prices have increased, I have seen several toy items either new or in next to new condition that are very inexpensive.  Most stores also have lots of dvds, books and lately I have even seen games for electronic platforms.

As I said, the earlier you shop, the better and cheaper things will be so if you have children start looking now.  And you will have time to fix those items if needed.  For instance, if you find a doll at a thrift store you could make clothes that fit the doll.  A used tricycle may need some paint, etc.

Other places are garage sales, clearance items on discount stores both brick and mortar ones and online.  And the best time to start looking and purchasing is now even if it's only a couple dollars at a time.

Have a fantastic day...

Talk with you tomorrow...
