May 20: A Little of This, A Little of That along with a Dash of Crafting

Look what I spotted outside my studio window this morning.  The woodpecker was working on an old tree stump for almost thirty minutes.  First one I have seen this year.

So, the highest bidder was supposed to be chosen last night but my son's realtor said that they would not hear who won for a day or two...still fingers crossed, but not sure if the second bid was high enough.

Woke up to rain and fog...heavy fog...and it's still foggy out right now.  It's also sweatshirt and long pants weather today even though it's suppose to get extremely hot tomorrow and Sunday.  And more rain is forecast for this afternoon.  Are webbed feet next?

Today I wanted to share two more journal pages...

A few things to point out.  For instance, items with ink around the edges stand out much more than those without ink.  You can compare the paper bag pieces - one on the top picture and one on the bottom picture.  There may be times when you want items to stand out and other times when you don't.

I had an old dress pattern that I tore into pieces and added on the top picture.  You can see the pieces with writing softened with the layer of tissue.

On the bottom picture, I covered the entire page with a piece of a map using extra strength stick glue.  Then I used a dark brown ink pad on the map quickly wiping it off with a paper towel.  It aged the appearance of the map and softened the effect which I liked better.

Both of these are on a piece of regular white bond paper, folded in half and glued together.  By folding and gluing the paper is much stronger than using one that is not folded and even stronger that using one that is folded in half but not glued.

Remember this page from a couple days ago...

I wanted to see what how it looked adding yellow ink from an ink pad...

I think I like the addition of the yellow ink but not quite sure.  What do you think?

This weekend, experiment with different techniques while creating journal pages.  Add fabric items to paper like lace, ribbon and small pieces of cloth.  Play around with acrylics and watercolors as well as ink pads.

Next week we will look at different ways to add the signatures to our journal cover.

Talk with you on Monday...
