January 10, 2023

A beautiful picture of snow which, of course, we do not have here.  And the forecast later this week is for rain!

I wish some of the rain would fall out west.  Did you know that the Great Salt Lake is predicted to dry up in five years?  Five years, folks!

If you have never visited the lake, then you probably do not know how large it is and how small it has become.  And there is a major problem.  With the evaporation comes arsenic and just to let you know, there is no amount of arsenic in your body that is good for you.  It's another problem to deal with due to our environmental situation.

Tuesday is list day so I thought that perhaps listing the benefits of meditation would be a great place to begin the year.  Meditation is not a religious endeavor.  It is simply the act of concentrating on something specific like breathing or a mantra to gain heightened awareness of self.  That sounds kind of weird but it really works.

I find that I began my meditation by concentrating on breathing but once I am well into the meditation, I concentrate on other things.  For instance, if my knee hurts, I will ask my body to send healing energy to ease the pain.

If you haven't tried meditation, find an app, or google a method and try it.  Start with short amounts of time until you reach what is comfortable for you.  And, as promised, here is a list of twenty benefits of meditation.

1.  Provides a sense of calm
2.  Lowers stress
3.  Controls anxiety
4.  Encourages good mental health
5.  Encourages good physical health
6.  Lengthens attention span
7.  May reduce age related memory loss
8.  Fosters sleep
9.  Helps with pain control
10.  Lowers blood pressure
11.  Assists reduction of depression
12.  Promotes anger reduction
13.  Beneficial for stopping addiction
14.  Promotes kindness
15.  Improves focus and concentration
16.  Improves self esteem and self awareness
17.  Assists in controlling post tramatic stress disorder
18.  Aids when coping with illness
19.  Helps with weight loss and eating behavior
20.  Helps with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder

That's quite a list.  I hope it encourages you to at least give meditation a try and not just once but several times.  It took me at least a dozen times before I got it.

That's all for today...
Talk with you tomorrow...
