May 5, 2023 Ephemera for Tall Journal

Happy Cinco de Mayo!  Check out the Cinco de Mayo festivals near you and enjoy the celebration.

Today, I am making Swiss Steak which takes a long time for the meat to get tender.

I started  about an hour ago by browning the meat (London Broil).  Once it was browned I added a large can of diced tomatoes and a bit of water.  Enough to cover the meat and now it is simmering.  Later on I will add more tomatoes, onions, crushed garlic and sliced mushrooms.  Fifteen minutes before serving, I will add a cup more or less of sour cream to finish it off and serve it over rice.

I thought I would share a piece of journal ephemera that I made and have included on one of the pages in the tall journal.  I saw something similiar  on a video not long ago and, as normal, tweaked it.

I began with a digital print of one of my own journal designs.  It's not great but it worked for this...

I free hand cut into a shape I wanted...

Next, I inked around the edges as well as on part of the paper...

I wanted this to be a fold out on both sides, so I folded the paper and inked the folds on both sides...

I glued the first small fold from the left only to the page...

I added some ephemera to decorate.  The foldout can be written on both sides.  Here's how it is folded and how it unfolds...

The back side of the digital printed page was white.  To temper that starkness, I used an ink dobber with most of the ink off to add the pink color you see in the picture above.  It's an inexpensive way to decorate white paper.  I also like to ink the edges because it sets the ephemera apart from the page.

That's it for today...
Enjoy your weekend and do something you really want to do for yourself...
Talk with you on Monday...
