For some there are a few more days to squeeze in a mini vacation or day trips, for others school has begun and things are getting back to a more scheduled day.
Rain is forecast for the next three days and it sure is cloudy. Looks like the sky could open up and drop a load (of rain) any minute now. We've had so much rain this year that the garage has yet to dry out from the flooding in July even with the door open. I wonder if this is a prediction for the winter snow totals.
I worked on the cover for the latest journal. Sometimes I use one piece of cardboard and other times I use two. This time I used two.
I make three holes on both the cover and the pages clamped together. Next, starting from the middle hole I push the needle through from the inside to the outside. Then I go to the top hole and push the needle through to the inside. Next I go all the way down to the bottom hole and push the needle through from the inside to the outside. Finally, I push the needle back through the middle hole. Making sure the two pieces of thread are on different sides of the long thread (from top hole to bottom hole), I pull tight making sure all the thread is pulled and tie a knot. It sounds complicated but it's really easy. Here's a picture of a couple of the signatures sewn onto the cover.
This is what the cover looks like with two signatures...
Here's the cover with all four signatures sewn in and the second piece attached with glue...
Even though I measure, I don't always get the signatures (group of pages) sewn in equally which is surprising because I make all the holes first before sewing. Notice the next closeup. By overlapping the place where the signatures are bound, the sewing is hidden.
I did leave space at the end of the book to add a notebook. By the way, the green is not the final cover for the book...
I left the string long from attaching the signatures because I want to add some of my paper beads...
Next up for this journal is the cover which will be out of fabric. I will share it when I finish.
Our trip to Maryland was wonderful. It was great spending time with my daughter and family as well as my first great grandchild...a little boy. We saw historic Ellicott City with it small shops including a popcorn store! On the way back, we took a route through Lancaster, PA and stopped at one of the Amish Farm Stands. Of course, we bought things like a shoo fly pie, cheddar bread, some of the best meat I've eaten and canned jams including hot pepper jelly which I thoroughly love.
The cats were actually happy to see us...well, it took Chip a while to warm up but by bedtime he was back to normal.
There's a new weekly question posted and a new daily meditation. Be sure to use the web version to see the sidebar which is where they are posted.
