Well, as promised the temperature is high - 52 at 5:30 this morning!  And rain!  It has been raining since before I got up and it's supposed to rain all day.

About 90% of the snow is already gone and with several more hours of rain forecast that last 10% will be nothing but a memory!

Looks like the high is in the mid fifties around noon today and then the temperatures starts going down but the rain continues until this evening.  We may have to contend with some ice but the highs for the next ten days are all above freezing.

I did make the cookies yesterday and will share a picture and recipes later.  I also finished another house for the winter village.  Here's the basic form...

And covered with decorative paper...

And finally with windows and door...

Kind of odd looking if you ask me!

It's a bit late to plan get togethers but not impossible.  When the children were young, there was one gathering that helped with baking...a cookie exchange.  Everyone brought two or three dozen of their favorite cookie.

During the gathering not only did everyone get to sample everyone else's cookies for refreshment, they exchanged cookies so that everyone went home with the same amount of cookies (minus those shared for refreshments) but different types because they had cookies from each of the participants.  The amount depended on how many cookies each was to bring and how many participants there were.

It was a low keyed, easy event and and the only thing the host had to do (besides hosting at their house) was to provide something to drink like coffee, tea or soda.

Another get together that's popular and helps money-wise is a gently used toy and/or clothing exchange.  The toy exchange is really popular because it saves money.  There are many ways to structure this event but the easiest way it to let the participants choose items they would like to exchange making sure everyone gets at least one item that they really want.  Add some light refreshments and a beverage and that's all the host had to do.  And to make it simpler, have a potluck type of light refreshments where everyone brings something eatable to share.

Again, an easy, low keyed event that could really help the budget especially with children's gifts.

Well, it's Friday and this is the last weekend before the holidays end or begin (other than New Year's). (It's also a big football weekend for both college and NFL games!) That makes this the last weekend for shopping and/or making things.

If it seems too much, cut down on planned activities, meal menus and even the amount and to whom you give gifts if needed.  Use the remaining time wisely but always schedule in some down time for resting and relaxing.  Being tired, overworked and anxious does not encourage good outcomes...so rest!

Have a great weekend...

Talk with you on Monday...
