The funny thing is that it snowed in Park City this weekend and sleeted in other places in Utah! Global warming may have really had an impact on our weather patterns. Too much rain in the northeast and way to little in the south and west.
I have transplanted about half the seeds so far and it looks like most of the transplants are doing well. It's been a long time since I started vegetable seeds...think decades...so I hope they continue to grow and strengthen.
I did spend time in the studio this past weekend. I wanted a wreath for the upper front door but needed it thin so it could hang between the screen door and the regular door. And as this is a spend less month, I didn't want to purchase anything.
I remembered the leaves I made for the tiny basked mobile and decided to make a fabric wreath using my scrap fabric and batting. I needed a base for the wreath and I decided to use cardboard. I taped three cardboard box flaps together and cut out a wreath shape...
To strengthen the cardboard shape, I added additional pieces at the joints and folds using clear packing tape...
To finish and add strength, I ripped three long strips of the same fabric I used to make the leaves and wound around the cardboard...
I made several leaves in different shapes by layering a piece of low loft batting between two pieces of the fabric, cutting out the leaf shape and then stitching around the edge using a zigzag stitch...
Using a glue gun, I attached the leaves to the fabric covered cardboard circle...
I made flowers using pink fabric the same way I made the leaves. Using a flower pattern, I layered a piece of low loft batting between two pieces of pink fabric, cut out the flower shape and stitched around the edges with a zigzag stitch. I also added a large button in the middle...
I added the flowers to the wreath plus a bow at the top. It turned out to be a beautiful spring decorative addition at no cost during this spend less month...
You could make a wreath out of paper also. There are directions to make inexpensive (make that cheap or free) flowers on YouTube using items around the house. Another idea would be to collect things from nature to create a wreath...things like vines, twigs, pine cones, even small rocks.
Once you think about it, when you really want to create something using only what's on hand, you can probably come up with a dozen or more ideas to try. A 'spend less' month doesn't mean a 'creative less' month...it just means you need to brainstorm a bit to create what you want.
Have a wonderful day...
Talk with you tomorrow...
