I know that I missed posting the new word and challenge for April yesterday but they are up now. I like the word 'Beginnings' for April because it is a month with promises of new beginnings in nature. Birds flying back, flowers blooming, trees leafing out and most of all beginning the outdoor season of the year.
And, as this is tax month (Hope you have filed your taxes...remember April 15th is the deadline!) I thought a spend less challenge was in order. How you develop this plan is up to you. We all have to spend money on necessary items like food, housing, utilities, travel and healthcare but perhaps this is the month that you spend only on necessary items.
With this current economy, though, probably most of us don't even have money for non-necessary items. Perhaps you could challenge yourself to purchase mostly sale items when possible. Groceries, for instance. Or, if something is definitely a need, perhaps you could shop at thrift stores (No, not for groceries!!!), or buy nothing groups, etc.
Another way you could challenge yourself is to set up a piggy bank in the house and add your change to it every day, or a certain amount. Even a dollar a day will add up to $30.00! And you could use that money for a special treat at the end of the month.
I didn't spend much time in the studio...again...but I did manage to cut out blocks for each of the envelopes in the cards. Each card will contain an envelope with a regular nine-patch block made up from scrap fabric to hand sew...
And an envelope with a flower...this time a tulip which has four half-square triangles and five regular blocks, again made out of scrap fabric...
I only have 14 blocks because I will be using the pockets for one card to hold the needles, thread and tiny scissors.
Originally I was going to make 12 inch square blocks but the pieces were too large for the envelopes so I decided to make the blocks 9 inch square when finished. And the next time I set up the cards with more blocks, I will use a different flower but keep the same nine patch pattern.
This is Holy Week ending with Easter, as well as the beginning of Passover. For all my readers who celebrate these Religious Observance Days, I wish you joy, peace and love. I hope you are able to spend time with family and friends as you celebrate. And I hope each of you will be mindful of the many blessings that you/we have had even during this time of uncertainty and economic hardship.
Have a wonderful day...
Talk with you tomorrow.
