MAKING A SIMPLE JOURNAL USING THE PAMPHLET STITCH

Make a cover from cardstock or a magazine cover that is cardstock weight...

With other decorative paper either purchased or from magazine pages and stickers cover both sides...

Once the cover is done, add four to six pages...

If needed, cut the pages to fit a bit smaller than the cover.  Next, nestle the papers into the cover and place bull clips to hold in place...

With a pencil make three dots in the crease of the page, one in the middle and one on each side about an inch inside the edge.  With an awl, or a sharp needle poke a hole through the pages and cover on all three dotes as shown...

Thread a needle (Embroidery needle works well) with string as long as about 3 1/2 times the height of the book.

First, with a needle and string, go through the middle hole from the inside to the outside.  Second, go through the top hole from the outside to the inside.  Third go down to the bottom hole and go through from the inside to the outside.  Fourth, go through again the middle hole from the outside to the inside.

You can also start from the outside rather than the inside.  In that case the string will end on the outside.

Make sure that the strings from the middle hole are on either side of the long string...

Pull the string tight checking to make sure that it is tight on both the inside and outside, tie in a knot and secure with a drop of glue.  You can tie the knot into a bow, you can add beads to the string or you can cut it short.
