It really did turn out quite nice. Interestingly, everyone of the guild members interpreted the pattern uniquely.
The other project I did this week - start to finish - is to make a small, lightweight quilt for The Christmas Fair at a local church. The quilt measured 60" by 48". I called it 'Scattered Dreams'.
I had several 6" by 6" squares and decided to make twelve large squares using four of the smaller squares.
I found a dark blue fabric in my stash and had just enough to use between the blocks and as a border. To coordinate the blocks, I sewed a 2" square on point in the center of each block. I was surprised at how nice the quilt turned out.
I found a soft colorful material to use for the back...
To finish the quilt, I simply layered it, sewed around three sides, turned it and stitched up the final side. I then top stitched around the edge twice and tied the rest of the quilt. As this was a light weight quilt, I decided to do something I remember my grandmother doing. She used to use old blankets and sheets to line some of her light weight quilts. I used a sheet - new - and what I found out was that this was easier than using batting.
Along with the quilt I made a pouch to store the quilt in...
I added sides, lined it, and finished with a satin ribbon to tie it. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the finished pouch.
The final item I made was a journal cover (for steno size notebooks) 'to catch the dreams before they scatter'.
I used some of the 6" by 6" blocks to make the cover. The notebook simply slides into the pockets on the inside. The three items together made a nice presentation.
All in all, it turned out to be a busy week, but happily, the projects were finished. And now it is time to turn my attention to Thanksgiving. We are having a few guests for dinner. It will be different not attending the Macy's Day Parade in person, but I can relish the many times we did go and enjoy the parade on television. As it's supposed to rain, that may be better anyway.
Thanks for stopping by...
