Simple Angel Decoration

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving...and that you are now well rested after the event.  Our gathering was small, but we had a really nice time.   Thanksgiving has become a very informal celebration at our home.   There was a time when it was a very formal presentation even if the atmosphere was informal...and it wasn't uncommon for an extremely large gathering.

Lately, though, our celebration has been scaled down.   The table is set, but we all take our plates and dish up in the kitchen.   Sounds kind of weird, but it works for us.   After all, we have to eat between the parade and the football games.  When we lived in the city, we used to go the the Macy's Day Parade first and then come home and fix dinner.

And now, it is time to turn our thoughts to the next big celebration.  How's your gift purchasing going?   I think I am about 70% done.   Haven't wrapped anything, but have the boxes ready to put things in...I always test them to see if everything will fit!

This year, we are going to deliver about half of our gifts in person prior the the big day....cuts down on postage, but gas not so much.

Well, in preparation for Christmas I usually make some ornaments.   This one is an old one that I remember my aunt sending to my folks when I was in grade school....that's a long time ago folks!

It really is so simple that young folk can make it.   But if you want to put in some time decorating it, the results can be beautiful.   Unfortunately, all of my decorated ones are still packed away, but here is the general idea.

All you need is some felt (1/4 of a felt piece you can purchase already cut), 1/2 of a chenille  stick, a tiny styrofoam ball and some yarn or string for hanging...

The pattern is simple...three pieces two of which are cut on the fold...

Simply slide the wings through the slit in the body.   Slide the chenille stick in the fold of the body above the wings.   Pass it completely through the styrofoam ball and pierce the 'halo'.   Bend to secure the 'halo' and trim.   Add yarn or string for hanging.

The angel looks cute as is.   However, if you want to add something extra, then take a tiny amount of stuffing and place it inside the body and sew the bottom edges together.   Then decorate.   I only added glitter to the edges; however, I have used beads and gold thread to really turn the angels into something special. It really is an ornament that is appealing to make for young and old alike.

Well, I hope you try this easy angel.   Once you get it down, you can make several to decorate your presents also.

Thanks for stopping by...
