Yes, I found the dust...it's on a dirt road that goes around the perimeter of the basin!!!! I took the scenic route - read that a dirt road - to look for wild horses. A road that I thought was eleven miles long which turned out to be more like forty-five miles.
For the most part, the road wasn't too bad but I wouldn't want to travel it in either rain nor snow. And the roads that branched off from the main road were little more than two ruts. My assumption is that in order to see the horses one needed to travel down these roads. That was a little much for me...especially the ones that lead off into the wild blue yonder!!!
But I did take some pictures. And the pictures especially from the second half of the trip are quite something. (However, it's taking about 15 minutes to upload a picture so you will get half the journey today and the rest tomorrow. )
This was several miles into the journey announcing the Pilot Butte Wild Horses Scenic Tour...
And the road continues upward...it's a good thing that I could take pictures in front because so much dust was raised from driving that it turned the car beige...
You will see several pictures of the 'Pilot Butte' as the road gets closer and closer...
This is the valley where the wild horses live...
And the road continues upward...
The Mountains and the Red Desert
How's this for a view? The next picture spans to the right...
I told you that this butte would get closer. Wait until tomorrow, it will be twice this size!
As I continued to drive the road continued to go up so the pictures tomorrow will be even more spectacular.
I will be driving to Cheyenne tomorrow. It's not too long and once again I will be staying for three days. Looking at the calendar, I think I will have to speed things up from there on. But, I should have the first part of the writing assignment done so I will be able to ease up on the writing.
For those of you who asked, Dale is better, but still a bit under the weather.
By the way, the wind is so strong (no storms) that I was almost blown over walking to the showers. And the trailer is rock and rolling!!! Hope it keeps up, then I will be rocked to sleep!!!!
