Wow!!! I thought that the WiFi was bad at the first campsite. It's worse here...at least it takes a lot longer to upload a picture.
But here's the pictures from the second half of the scenic drive. They show that I really was driving around the perimeter of the basin. It was quite spectacular...and windy. I tried to get close to the edge to take some better pictures, but decided that the wind would probably blow me over, so I stayed a few feet away. These pictures were taken from several different stops along the road.
Here's Pilot Butte...we did get much closer. I was tempted to check it out but I still wasn't sure how much further I was going to have to drive...or even if I would need to turn around...
It was a couple miles past the butte that the road descended - and I do mean descended - I rode the brakes most of the time. But this was what was at the bottom...
...and a gas station!!! Did I tell you that I was getting so low on fuel that I think the car was sucking fumes????? But, I made it.
For those of you who have asked...no, I did not see any wild horses. I was disappointed at not seeing any, but I did enjoy the drive.
I have no pictures from the drive to Cheyenne. Most of the interstate was two-way traffic with no shoulders as work crews were working on half of the road.
The scenery on the way changed. To begin with, it reminded me of a giant sandbox where children had formed soft hills patting it down so not rough edges remained. (Quite different from Brice Canyon.)
Then as we traveled east, the hills began to support grasslands. With that came gigantic herds of cattle...I mean miles and miles of cattle as far as the eye could see.
When we got to Laramie the scenery changed dramatically. We descended into a deep valley and there were trees, grass, water...it was a lot like the midwest. But when we left Laramie, we climbed out of the valley and the rest of the drive was grasslands with farms dotting the landscape here and there. Regular farms with crops and cattle, farms of wind turbines and farms of oil pumps!
I've been mostly writing these past few days so I haven't explored much of Cheyenne. I did ride down the older part of the city but when I went to take pictures...the battery was drained. I'm charging it so I will take some pictures tomorrow if it is light when I leave.
Tomorrow's a long day...A LONG DAY...360 miles which is why I'm leaving early. I'm packed up, the trailer is already on the car. So all I have to do when I get up is unplug the electricity, water, etc. and off I go.
Thanks for stopping by...check in again as I travel eastward.
MY JOURNEY OF CHANGE...
The last time I drove through Wyoming with my husband, I remember a place where there was a train traveling far in the distance. And it seemed to go from one horizon to the other.
Well, I passed that place again...and as if on que, here came a train...a long train...it reminded me of the time with Bill. Kind of a bittersweet moment. But then I'm having many of those lately.
