So, I have made a big dent upstairs. Of the clothes that I was debating whether to give or keep, I gave away half. I'm still deciding on about a quarter of what's left. The other quarter - about five pieces, I decided to keep.
I also went through all the rest of my clothes and have given away about another 20 percent. In other words, I have another very large box of clothes for Goodwill.
I also took the short sleeve tops including t-shirts out to the trailer. Tomorrow I will take the remainder of things that I am not wearing currently....basically I'm in a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt.
Someone asked me why I am giving away so much...including clothes. Well, I guess I would rather have all of these things used by someone instead of sitting in storage. Of course, if I really will use something or cherish it, I will not give it away. But, if it's not something special, why not give someone else a chance to enjoy it.
Part of this comes from a desire to simplify my life. Part of it comes from the understanding that my next apartment will be really small. And part of it comes from a belief that my happiness is not dependent upon 'things'. Maybe that comes from reaching a certain age. Again, I really enjoyed using all those things at one time in my life. Now, though, I really am enjoying not having all those things to be responsible for.
I also loaded the car, but this time with things to go to the storage unit. So far I have packed 53 boxes of which five are large. And of those, 20 are in the car including the five large ones, ready to go to the storage unit along with two rolling carts full of silk flowers. Guess where I am going tomorrow morning? I hope to take one load a day to the storage unit for the next eight days except Sunday.
How are your Holiday plans coming along? I find that I do miss decorating my home including a tree, but not as much as I thought I would. Perhaps that's because I am too busy getting things ready to leave. I think once everything is out of the house, I may pick up a tiny set of lights, some Christmas silk flowers and maybe a tiny tree to decorate the trailer. What do you think?
