Second Reverse Applique Example...

Well, the trial is in the final stages but the defense has been so long-winded that the judge had to interrupt for a lunch break.

When they reconvene, the defense will finish up their closing arguments, the prosecution will have time to rebut and then the judge will give the final directions.

And everyone is bracing for the jury's decision.  Major cities are making sure that they have folks at the ready in case there are riots.

So, as promised, here is the second of three different reverse applique examples.  For this one, I used three fabrics and highlighted the flower design...

So, the flower fabric is on the bottom.  Cut the oval out of the red fabric...

And then cut a larger oval out of the black fabric...

Once these ovals are cut out, make several 1/4 inch cuts around the opening on both the red and black fabric.  Next pin the red fabric to the flower fabric and fold the cut portions under so the oval has a finished edge and not raw edge.  You may use a small amount of glue if desired.  Use a hem stitch to sew the red fabric to the flowered fabric.  Repeat the process to attach the black fabric to the red fabric.  Turn over and trim away fabric as shown.

Add a 2 inch strip of red fabric around the black fabric.  You may use this as a block in a quilt or you may finish as shown.

First, layer a backing fabric, batting and the reverse applique piece.  Stitch in the ditch around the seam in the oval openings and where the red fabric is attached to the black fabric.  Add a binding.

This took a bit longer to create than the first example from Friday (adhesive reverse applique). Time can be saved by not adding the black fabric and only having one reverse applique.

Tomorrow, I will share the third example which, without doubt, took the longest to make.

See you tomorrow...
