25 Days of Christmas Crafts - Day Seventeen - Easy Fabric Stocking

This morning the high was in the high 50's but the temperature was dropping.  Tomorrow the high is in the 40's but it's supposed to rain all day!  This is December 17th and we are expecting rain...not snow!  Not normal!!!

So I was able to find all the vegan supplies from eggs to more butter...not cheese though.   I plan to begin baking this afternoon both.

Today's craft is a fabric stocking...

Supplies needed are:  Two types of fabric and matching thread,
scissors, sewing machine, iron, paper, pencil, pins

First of all make a pattern.  You can tape two pieces of regular paper
together to make a pattern for a large stocking...

Place two pieces of fabric right sides together
and place the pattern on top,
trace the edge of the pattern on the fabric and cut out
adding 1/2 inch seam allowance...

Keeping right sides together, stitch on the pattern line
leaving top open.  Trim the seam allowance to 1/4 inch.
Turn right sides out, iron and with matching thread
stitch around the stocking with right sides out 1/4 inch
from edge...

To make the cuff at the top, use the matching fabric.  Cut a piece
of fabric the width of the stocking and twice the size of the cuff
desired.  With right sides together, sew the cuff closed...

Fold in half wrong sides together...

Slip the cuff inside the stocking folded side
down, raw edges together and pin...

Stitch 1/2 inch seam allowance from the raw edge.
Trim seam allowance to 1/4 inch...

Turn the cuff out and pin at seam...

To add a loop, cut a piece of fabric the length and
three times the width desired.  Stitch the seam width wise...

Fold in half wrong sides together...

Fold raw edge in about half way and pin...

Fold the bottom folded edge up inside to cover
the raw edge and pin...

Stitch around the open edge with 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Add to the stocking inside at the back seam.  Pin.
Stitch around the top of the stocking with matching thread...

The reason for the top stitching is that it hides raw edges
and strengthen the seams...

If you do not want a loop, discard that part of
the instructions.  I used black thread rather than
matching thread to easily see the stitching.

This is an easy and quick way to make a
stocking...

Enjoy...
