February 1: Joy

This picture was taken at Yellowstone Park last summer.
See the road about halfway up?  It's dirt and very narrow!

I didn't get much sleep last night...actually, I got none until around five this morning.  Sinus!  Not exactly fun!  So today I am taking it easy.  I had a lot on my daily routine list but I have pared that list down to only a few.

How big was your list of joys yesterday?  Most folks find that if they begin looking for joys they find more than they ever imagined!  And guess what, that affected their entire outlook for the day...changed their  attitude.  The trick is to continue to look for and appreciate those little joys in life.  The big ones always make their presence known, it's the little ones, though, that are always there even when we don't look and can make the biggest difference.

And smile...it's hard to be mad and upset when you smile.  Try it.  Next time you are upset about something, try smiling.  Yes, I know there are exceptions to that but generally, it works.  It actually diminishes anger, especially over the little things.

When I decided to write about joy this week, all sorts of ideas showed up from an online service this week from the First Universalist Unitarian Society of San Fransisco to an article in the Saturday Evening Post.  In that article, 'Just Say Yes!  Open the door to fun' by Judith Fein, the author advised folks to say yes to new adventures...not new responsibilities...but adventures.

How many times of you received an invitation to do something different and made all sorts of excuses but in the end participated and have a great time.  Maybe it's time to say yes to a few more adventures in life.  You may find even more things to be joy filled about!

Today, say yes to something...even watching or reading something that is out of your norm, but someone suggested.  Or take a walk, if the weather cooperates, even if it means you have to get dressed a bit differently.  Or try a new recipe that you keep wanting to try but put off for one reason or another.

Talk with you tomorrow...
