April 28: Simplifying Your Crafts

Look what I found in the yard, the back end close to the wooded area?  Aren't they just beautiful.  This is the first year that I remember seeing them.

Sorry about not posting yesterday but one of my cats - Dale - isn't doing too well.  But he is 20 years old...that's human years.   Here's a photo of Chip and Dale.  They are brothers.  Dale is on the left...

They've been part of my life since they were three months old...basically, family.

I thought that we would look at organizing your craft room.  Of course, many folks like a messy room to work in.  I like to organize my supplies so they are easy to find but when I am working on a project, I leave everything out and available.

As I am packing things up for the move, one thing I wanted to do was have some supplies on hand for crafting.  I have been working with paper and journals and realized that the supplies for my junk journals were in a mess.

I was looking for a way to organize all the paper and ephemeral that was easy and not expensive.  I landed on regular business envelopes.  Check these out...

The bottom envelope has tissue paper with images like flowers or stripes.  Below are three of the envelopes.  One contains old papers, one contains maps and one contains pieces of paper bags...

One way this will work for me is that these envelopes will fit into a large plastic box with room for the rest of the supplies I want to make junk journals.

I am not sure if I will keep the supplies organized like this but they will work for now.  Later on I was thinking about an expandable file holder.

So how does your studio/craft room work for you.  If you have no problems finding things - great!  But if you find it hard to lay your hands on some supplies, then it's time for you to decide how to organize.  And while you are organizing, check out those crafts that you haven't done in a long time.  Do you still want to keep them?  If not, why not donate the supplies to a local retirement home or school...some place that would welcome the supplies.

By the way, house hunting in earnest begins this weekend. We are looking at two houses - inside - to see how we like them.

Talk with you tomorrow...
