April 29: Simplifying Your Crafts

The forsythia was a neon yellow in the sun today.  Very striking.  Dale seems a bit better today.  I am taking him to the vet tomorrow morning to see what's what.  Here's hoping...

As you know I am in the process of packing.  Today, I spent most of the day sorting and packing in my studio...basically all my crafting supplies.  And I am trying to decide what to keep out and what to pack.  I use lace and ribbon in a lot of my crafts so I decided to keep a supply of both available.

To keep them neat, I decided to wrap them around a piece of cardboard...

Now that I've wound the lace and ribbon I wanted to keep out, I think I will do it with all of my supply.  It's better than just throwing them into a large plastic bin.  And it saves space.

So how many ideas have you discovered now that you are taking an inventory in your craft room?  Make sure that you jot them down right away so that you can refer to them in the future.

One thing that I have discovered in visiting and talking with other artists.  Each one has their own way of organizing their studio.  Some of them, to my eye, are in such a disarray that I can't believe they are even workable BUT to the artist whose studio it is, they can lay their hands on what ever they want immediately and find the space fits their creativity perfectly.

Others are so completely organized that not even a scrap dares fall out of place...and that's how the artist who works there thrives.

Each of us has to find our own way of being creative...formulas generally don't work for creative space.  It's up to you to find what works best.  Don't even consider negative judgements of anyone else...this is your creative space.  It has to work only for you without apology.

Still, taking inventory and thinking about creative changes may introduce new energy and lots of new ideas.  Be open to them.  If they don't work...try something else.  But above all, make it your space.

Have a great weekend.

Talk to you on Tuesday...
