May 12: A Little of This, A Little of That along with a Dash of Crafting - Journals

My goodness, the days just get better and better.  I have the windows open and the lawn was mowed bringing in the wonderful smell of fresh cut grass.  Better than any candle or spray can create!

I packed more in the studio today.  I should be able to finish it up by tomorrow...fingers crossed.

Today we are making the cover for our journal.  I used a box similar to the cardboard found in a cereal box.  The dimensions are 8 inches high and 5 1/2 inches wide with a 1 3/4 inch spine.  I used wide tape on the spine both inside and outside.  You can use masking, cloth, or packing tape.  If you don't have any tape, glue a piece of plain paper on both the inside and outside spine.  To make the cover solid, I added a two inch piece of cardboard on the inside edge of the cover.  See the pictures below...

Cut two decorative pieces of paper to cover the front covers with either glue (tacky) or double sided tape.  Cut the paper so that it can wrap around to the inside of the cover.  Do not cover the spine.  That will be done later...

Next cut two pieces of decorative paper to cover the inside of the cover.  Cut these the right size to fit the cover but again do not cover the inside spine...

Use either a wide tape or piece of decorative paper to cover the spine.  To decorate, use a wide washi tape on the edge of the wide tape or paper as shown...

Now it's time to have fun and decorate the front cover.  Here's how I decorated my front cover...

Finally, add a pocket to the inside front cover along with a tag.  Attach the pocket either with double sided tape or a thin stream of tacky glue around the edges (Not the top, though!)...

And that's all there is.  Of course, there are many ways to make a cover.  Check YouTube for more ideas.

Tomorrow we will begin making pages.

Talk with you tomorrow...
