September 21, 2022

It's a bit cooler today.  The tree trimming is finally down the street so I can hear myself think.  That chipper is loud.  It started the horn alarm again this morning.

So I am taking Dale to the vet this afternoon.  He is not doing well and I don't want him to suffer.  But we have been great pals for 21 years.

The housing situation is on hold again.  This time there are problems with getting the title information back from the previous situation.  At this point, I am thinking that we may not move but who knows.

Today's focus is paper.  Have you ever made cabbage roses out of fabric?  Well, you can make them out of paper, newspaper, paper towels, etc.  Today I wanted to try using paper towels.

To make big cabbage roses, use three small sheet cut in half lengthwise.  To make small roses, use one of the small sheets.  Supplies needed are paper towels, water, water colors or markers or ink stamps plus some tacky glue and a small piece of cardboard for the base when the rose dries.

To make a plain cabbage rose, completely wet the paper towel and scrunch it up, squeezing several times.  Do not squeeze the water out.  Next, straighten out the paper towel and scrunch together lengthwise.

Begin by twisting one end tightly then, twist the paper towel towards you as you twist it around the center.  See pictures below...

Finish by tucking the end on the back, slightly pushing up the center of the cabbage rose.  When dry, use a bit of tacky glue to adhere to a small circle of light cardboard.

To add color you can use water colors, markers and ink pads.  I like to add the color to the dry paper towel sheet first and then thoroughly wet and then scrunch up the towel to distribute the color.

Below is a picture of cabbage roses.  The first two on the left are large and made with three small sheets cut in half lengthwise.  I then used a marker on the completed cabbage rose and squirted with water to distribute the color.

The two small middle ones were made by using markers on the dry sheet first, wetting it and then following the above instructions.  The two small flowers on the right hand side were made as above but using an ink pad and placing it lightly on the dry paper towel.

I have to say that once you make one, it's hard not to make lots...kind of like eating chips.  Enjoy.

That's all for today...

Talk with you tomorrow...
