July 14: Summer Enjoyment

Thistles...that's what the 'flowers' are in the picture!  I think they are beautiful but they are a nuisance, especially out west where they are in abundance.  Also, they have sharp barbs!

So, today was a day spent working at home...sorting through documents, shredding, gathering garbage, taking down shelves, etc.  And reading!  I have been reading Anne Perry's Inspector Pitt and Charlotte mysteries.  I had read about half of them in the past, so I decided to begin with the first book.  I have to say I was surprised at how much I had forgotten...important things.

Did you watch the last 1/6 Committee Hearings?  What I found interesting backs up a story I have read over and over about how one family member who buys into the whole 'Trump lies' through far right media is helped to stop believing by removing that total immersion.

Both witnesses said that once they stopped tuning into far right news medias and social medias, they realized that what they had believed was not true.

So Thursday's focus is miscellaneous and I am suggesting to entertain with pot lucks meals.  Summer is a time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.  One element of enjoyment was getting together for a meal.  But if the person hosting the get together is also the one who provides the food, well, unless they really, really, really enjoy cooking for lots of folks, it can be a bit overwhelming.

My suggestion is to have pot lucks.  Pot luck picnics at a park.  Pot luck barbeques.  Or just plain pot lucks at your home.  You can organize and ask folks to bring certain foods, or you can have a real pot luck to see what is brought.

Who cares is it's all desserts?  Or all salads?  And to make it easy on yourself or who ever hosts, use disposable paper products so that cleanup can go right into a recycling bin.

If children are involved, find some activities for them to enjoy...even a game of hide and seek or tag or badminton so that adults can just sit and enjoy talking with one another.

Pot lucks are easy on the budget, easy to prepare for, and just plain fun!  Gather a group of friends and/or family and enjoy a pot luck meal together.

Talk with you tomorrow...
