Looks like the entire week is in the high 40's which means the ice will be gone! And folks, that's a good thing in my book.
It looks like we have a slight chance of rain a couple times this week but I'll take that over ice any day.
One of the things I did over the weekend was check out vegetable gardening videos and I found a really unique one (to me) for growing carrots.
Basically, using paper egg trays, make a big hole in the bottom of each of the places that holds the eggs. Then fill the entire tray with dirt. In the meantime, start the carrot seeds by placing them on a wet towel, cover with plastic wrap and wait until they sprout. Once sprouted, place one sprouted seed in each egg unit and cover with dirt...not too deep...then lightly spray with water. Place the entire carton in the garden covering the sides with dirt. As the season continues, the tray will compost and you will wind up with nicely spaced large carrots with no thinning! Sounds like the way to go to me. I am going to try it this summer.
I also began reading Brian D. McLaren's book Life After Doom about our current global warming situation and how it affects everything...socially, politically, economically, etc. Not an easy read...as a matter of fact, he suggests that some folks should not read it because it does lay out the facts which are not at all comforting.
I have almost finished the large journal so I can mail it off to a friend out west...
