I brought in the few house plants that are still in good shape...five which means I only lost one houseplant but it wasn't doing that good before I placed it outside.
So the quilt show is done and it was a fantastic success. The mood at the meeting was wonderful. Members were happy and excited to see how talented our group is as well as have an opportunity to see each other's creations. Now I have to edit the pictures and place them on our website and then put together a slideshow video of our quilt show backed with music.
So did any of you make the Folded Scandinavian Star? It really is easy once you make one. And you can do it with paper as well as fabric. Imagine what you could do with several. Hang lots on a tree or string them together with yarn or even strips of fabric twined or braided together to make a decorative swag. Hang on a window, or a tree, down a banister on a stairway, around a doorway. A cheap but beautiful decoration!
It looks like the shutdown may come to an end but the economy is not great for most of us. So budgeting our expenses will still need to be done with necessities of food and shelter coming in first followed by other necessary expenses like medical, etc. And that will leave a lot less money for non-essential items.
But there is one thing I would like you to consider. Many of us look at our lives through lenses of less. In other words, we look at what we don't have rather than what we do have. There will always be folks with more than we have. What we need to do is stop thinking in those terms... 'keeping up with the Jones'...is what we called it back in the day.
A much better way to look at things, even though it may be hard to begin, is to look at what we do have. It's actually better for our health to look at life in terms of abundance rather than absence. So maybe your coat is not from the current fashion dictates...but it still keeps you warm, right? Or, your shelter is not in the best location or condition, but it does give you shelter, right? And maybe your diet doesn't consist of filet mignon or lobster, but beans and rice still fills your stomach, right? And maybe your gifts may not come from high end establishments, but even a coloring book and colors beats nothing, right?
Still, with money for non-essentials very low, or in some cases, not there, let's continue to explore over the next several weeks what you can do with what you have to make life a celebration.
Have a great day...
Talk with you tomorrow about another way to celebrate...
