Now that it's fall, they are all gone but I remember picking milkweed pods in the fall. When they dried and you opened them up, the amount that blew in the wind was much more than the dandelions.
Maybe milkweed pods don't grow here because I have only seen them once. It was a couple years ago and we were pumpkin hunting in a field of pumpkins. At the edge of one of the fields, there were a handful of milkweed pods which were picked and brought home...actually, my sons picked them for me. They were lost in the fire and I have yet to find any more.
So, yesterday I had intended on writing a post after my exercises, but I decided to work just a few minutes on a project. Before I knew it, it was mid afternoon and I was so close to finishing (Well, it took about five more hours!) that I decided to continue. I don't know if that happens to you - getting so involved in a project that you forget about everything else - but I have to say that now that the project is finished, I feel lighter. That only leaves two more projects which need finishing plus getting the quilt guild work done.
Do you realize that Thanksgiving is next week? For some reason, last night I thought I had two weeks before Thanksgiving. Wow, did that change my schedule. I thought I would share an easy craft pumpkin project that, if you are a knitter or crocheter, probably costs very little. Although, you can get enough yarn at the Dollar Tree Store to make these.
I like to wind my yarn in a ball, especially if I have used most of a skein...
If you take that ball of yarn, tuck in the end, then wind some yellow (or another color) to signify the sections, then add some green yarn to signify the leaves, it would look like this...
The yarn pumpkin is about 4 inches tall and very cute. Make three or more and put in a basket. If you have pine trees around, collect some pinecones and add them to the basket for a fall decoration.
I went grocery shopping last weekend and picked up a few more items for the Thanksgiving meal that were on sale. I also found something that I need for Christmas and purchased those items. They weren't on sale but they go so fast that it's hard to find them after Thanksgiving...candied cherries.
So far, I have the makings for one batch of fudge and two batches of fruitcake cupcakes...two special treats for around Christmas. Everything but the candied fruit were on sale. That's what I mean about spreading out purchases for special meals. Watch for sales to purchase them.
It's getting down to the wire for Thanksgiving so check out the sale items and change your menu, if needed, to use the sale items. For instance, I like russet potatoes but white potatoes were on sale really cheap so I will be using those to make mash potatoes.
Much of the rest of the items were either house brands which can really save you money or sale items.
The thing I really like about Thanksgiving is that it's a day to enjoy family and friends over a meal...not gifts and parties...but maybe football! And the meal doesn't have to be big and expensive or even turkey and all the fixings. Maybe your family loves something else...make that instead. Or, if it's a gathering, how about a potluck.
You know me...I love football...but I also love to watch movies and, of course, The Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving Special Cartoon. Your friends and family could watch movies or play games or put together a puzzle. There's no end to things to do that cost very little or no money. So, when you're planning your day think about things to do with family and friends that's fun but costs little.
One of my friends actually puts together a scavenger hunt for everyone with the prize being first in line for the Thanksgiving buffet meal. Another friend maps out a brisk walk in the woods for everyone to enjoy. I bet you can think of a dozen things to do to have fun.
Well, that's all for now...talk with you tomorrow...p.s.How's your kindness coming along?
