And today began in the single digits this morning, very cold. Looks like the next ten days is a weird up and down temperature variation from a high of 39 to a low of 10! And those are the highs for the day. The lows actually go to -2! It is clear and sunny out but too cold to melt any of the snow.
Last night the Indiana Hooziers won the College National Championship Title. Pretty good game with the last minute interception by Indiana securing their win.
So, do you still have winter holiday decorations up? I do...but then I really still enjoy looking at the tree with all its colorful lights. The decorations will be coming down tho in the next few weeks. I don't know about you, but we have quite a few decorations and I always add one or two during the season BUT without removing any of the older ones. That's changing this year.
Organizing, simplifying and removing some of the decorations makes sense...for everyone. I'm not suggesting that you get rid of decorations that mean a lot to you but perhaps there are some decorations that you simply haven't really used, but haven't removed from your collection either. Why not donate those items so others may have an opportunity to use them.
Decorating is much easier if stored items are organized including labeling what's in each box so you don't have to go looking through all the boxes for that one item you love. We have space to set up all the boxes, including one for donations, so packing will be easy and this is the year that I will go through each item and decide whether to keep or donate. I imagine most will be kept, but a significant will be donated.
I also imagine that it may be difficult making some decisions. The decoration made by a child long ago that's falling apart and not useable would be hard to discard. Or the last thing that a loved one, now gone, purchased to decorate with but doesn't quite fit with your life now. Taking a picture of those items is one way to remember them.
But, if you still can't part with items, pack them all together in a separate box and store them with the other boxes of decorations. Eventually you may be willing to part with them, but until that time, you won't have to deal with them when decorating.
You know, organizing and simplifying doesn't end with decorations. If you spend some time each week going through specific things, organizing and simplifying, you will be ahead of the game. Take a look at your clothes, or spices, or dishes, or craft supplies, or make-up, or books, or toys, etc., etc., etc.
Taking one drawer at a time, organizing and getting rid of things that are broken, do not work, are not needed, etc. instead of looking at a complete room will be an incentive to actually undertake organizing and simplifying. Looking at the larger picture may make the activity seem impossible, but taking a small bite each day will get you there just the same.
Stay warm today...it's cold out there...
Talk with you tomorrow...
