Another late post...hope this does not turn into a habit...but again life intervened and the morning just simply disappeared!

At least it was warmer this morning.  In the 40's at 5am...but it was raining.  The rain has stopped but it is very dreary outside...dark, windy, damp and only 48 right now.  Not a great day to work outside...

It did get very cold last night...into the mid 20's.  I'm hoping that with only one really cold night the spring flowers survived.

Speaking of surviving...I hope my starter seeds will survive.  One of the cats got into both the just sprouted seeds and the transplanted ones...I lost quite a few and spent yesterday reseeding several.  It's still early but I was not happy losing most of the tomato and pepper transplants!

I shared with you a couple days ago about making the hearts out of fabric scraps.  I liked the way they turned out so I decided to make some journal covers (about 4" by 7") using the same method with the exception of adding the card stock paper at the end.  I will add inside cover pages later.  Check these two out...

Then, as I was looking at these covers, I thought about making something similar with fabric scraps but using batting as a background and then stitching by hand.  I could use them as journal covers or make needle books, etc.  Since hand stitching and embroidery would be used on these, I choose fabrics that were more basic than decorative.  Check these out...

I could have used a fabric adhesive like 'Steam-A-Seam' but instead I used several drops of fabric glue to hold down the fabric.

I used to do a lot of embroidery, crewel, chicken scratch, cross stitching, candlewicking, etc.  I never really enjoyed count cross stitch probably because following a pattern was cumbersome for me but I have a friend who made absolutely beautiful counted cross stitch pieces.

I'm not sure what type of hand stitching I will do but I found another blog that I have been enjoying about embroidery.  It's called Sarah Homfray Embroidery and you can find it her blog on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/sarahhomfray

The thing about hand stitching is that it's in the wheelhouse of the slow stitching movement that has become so popular.  Slow stitching is a way to slow down and basically 'smell the roses' as my grandma used to say.  In other words, take time to really enjoy, feel, understand what's going on right now...in other words...life.  Watch a child smell the grass.  Listen to a bird calling the morning.  Feel the sun as it warms your skin.  Most folks forget that the only time they really have is 'right now'.  Yesterday is gone and only a memory.  Tomorrow can be anticipated but never experienced.  Today...right now...is where you live your life.  So cherish those moments.

That's it for today, folks...

Talk with you tomorrow hopefully earlier!
