But, the parades at Mardi Gras are sponsored by Mystic Societies and those members throw candy and trinkets to the crowd. Lots of candy and trinkets. Moon Pies are a big thing. And so are necklaces but there are stuffed animals, coins, whistles, etc.
That's why you see lots of hands up in the air. And I spotted a fishing net or two. People are really serious about catching stuff. To let you know how much is thrown, I didn't try to catch anything but wound up with lots of necklaces.
Here are a few floats from a day parade. See all those folks on the floats? They are all throwing stuff to the crowds!
The parades during the day are nice, but the parades at night are a lot of fun... This one ended with Soul Train...
