Textures and Goals!

Do you ever look at nature?   I mean really look at all the intricacies, all the patterns?   Tree bark, for instance, has a lot of different patterns.  Consider these two trees...

Now look at the larger picture of trees.   Consider all the different textures, lines straight up and down, or lines criss-crossing all over, fuzzy, or frosty...

I don't know about you, but sometimes my eyes just glance over a scene without really taking it in.  As a result, I do miss a lot of things.   Yes, I know that we do not always have to consider the details in a picture, just the overview.   But if that's all we ever see, then we miss a lot.

Consider rocks...all the different types, large and small, plain and colorful...

Check out the sky...

Or water...

Or flowers...

Texture is everywhere.   Take a good look around you to behold the beauty.   And yes, there is beauty everywhere including right where you and I happen to be at this moment.

When I take drawing/painting classes I know that I am much more observant of the world around me.   When I stop drawing or painting, I lose that perspective and become a casual observer.   I have to remind myself to really look at the world and consider all the intricacies...and you know, when I do that...when I see...really see the world, I smile because I can see the beauty.  I become like a child, exploring, discovering, enjoying, and, yes, smiling!   So go and enjoy looking at your world...and smile!
