ANTELOPE ISLAND

Have you ever been in a windstorm?   Last night we had a doozy.  It blew over everything not tied down including a porch swing set.   With the exception of being in a hurricane and a tornado, I have never experienced such heavy winds and I hope I don't again.   The house literally shook!!!

One of the places to visit when you're in Utah is The Great Salt Lake.  You can drive to a beach and marina and get a bit of a feel for the area but to really understand the lake, you need to visit Antelope Island.   This is a picture of the island (the small hazy land in the middle of the picture.) from the shore...

You can reach the island on a causeway...

There is a welcome center with a lot of information including a short video on the lake. You will find out that there are complete islands dedicated for bird sanctuaries on the lake.  Most people think that the lake is really just a 'dead' area.   It's not.

Antelope Island is also full of wild life such as bison, antelope, mule deer, long horn sheep, coyotes, and many, many species of birds.

Antelope Island also has some of the oldest and youngest rocks on earth like this one...

There's an old farm on the island which has been turned into a museum...

If you're in the area, it really is worth your time to visit this place.

i began my journal page with watercolors this time.   Just wish I had used my watercolor paper instead of Bristol paper.   Here it is so far...
