WHAT'S YOUR BLISS?

I hope you had an enjoyable weekend.   It was nice enough to work outdoors in this part of the country. This is what I accomplished...

The bed is a lot larger than it looks.   First I laid down a layer of weed control fabric, then I added a couple layers of cardboard.   It's so windy out here that I had to nail them into the ground so they wouldn't blow away.   The box in front is a four foot square raised bed.

I picked up wood to make a couple six by two feet beds. and a three by four foot bed.  The white trellis on the ground will be attached to the fence to keep the wind down - as much as possible.  Next, pick up some dirt.   The ground here is so hard, you really can't dig it.

“Find Your Bliss and Follow It.” That was the favorite saying of Joseph Campbell who was an author and college professor among many other things. He also filmed a great program with Bill Moyers called 'The Power of Myth'.

But, what does it mean? Well, I guess the best way to explain it is to find what gives you happiness and do it. Ideally, for instance, working at a job that gives you joy. If you can't do that, finding something at your job that you enjoy. If you can't find anything you like, maybe it's time to begin looking for another job!

But, it doesn't just mean your job or profession. It really means your entire life. For some people, the journey to discover is what gives them bliss. And I have to say that many times the questions are far more important than the answers.

So what gives you 'bliss', enjoyment? For me, fall in New England gives me bliss. It's like a big hug. But so does winter in New York City. Working on a great writing project. Spending time with friends.

See, it's not just one thing. We are far too complicated to settle on just one thing. And, just as we are too complicated to settle on one thing, our bliss changes as we change. Maybe it turns more inward. So, seeking your bliss is a journey and what better way to spend your life is there?

So, what's your bliss? Your enjoyment? Your love in life? How about spending this month discovering what it is and how to live it?
