RAIN ONCE AGAIN...

Well, we did make it back to the Biltmore; however, it was raining so hard that I couldn't get any outdoor pictures.   And the tour we took did not allow indoor pictures.   If you ever visit the Biltmore, I recommend that you take the butler's tour.   It is an additional cost, but well worth it.

The tour deals with the workings of the staff and the house from the second floor room of the lady in charge of running the house to the second basement.   For instance, the house was built using electricity.   However, at the time there were two competing types - direct and alternating, as well as battery.   So all three were incorporated.

There was a vegetable room, a canning room, the pantry, the pastry kitchen, the rotisserie kitchen, the main kitchen, serving rooms, laundries, sewing rooms, etc.   Electric clocks in all the staff areas but not in the house so guests could see them.   Telephones for the staff to use.   Etc., etc., etc.! And at the Biltmore, every staff person had their own private room.

Between the house, the gardens and the grounds, Antler Village, the winery and all the recreational activities, one could spend a week exploring everything.

I had lunch at the Stable Cafe located in the old stables:   Potato and carrot soups, quiche and a salad...

Very delicious!

After the Biltmore, I stopped in to check on Duchess and she was doing fine even with the storms.

Then a visit to the largest yarn shop I have ever been in - 4,000 square feet of space.   Almost overwhelming!   It's called Friends and Fiberworks, located at 19 Westridge Marketplace in Candler right on the Asheville line. Here are a few pictures...

The staff was very friendly.

Finally, I picked up Lady J (her bill was larger than Duchess' bill!).   And am I happy I took her to get serviced.   She's driving like a dream.   Hopefully both Lady J and Duchess are now finished with repairs - at least for a while.

Tomorrow, a train ride...pictures?  Hopefully!

Have a great weekend...
Thanks for stopping in...
