It's suppose to rain most of today but the temperatures are not high. We seem to have slipped into a mid 40s range for the next week or so.
A little sun would be nice but the clouds are so heavy I think that it will be hidden all day.
Yesterday, I shared the experiment with coffee dyed paper. Today I want to share another experiment...faux leather out of paper bags with a twist.
The supplies needed are brown paper bags (thicker is better), scissors, spray bottle with water, ink pad and, wait for it, hair conditioner.
First cut the paper bags apart so you have two nice size pieces. Begin to crumple up the bag several times as shown...
Next, spray lightly with water. Do not soak as this will cause tearing. Continue to crumple the paper as shown...
When you have crumpled the paper enough, using an ink pad (black or brown) go over the surface of the bag, highlighting the edges. You can use other colors if desired.
Next, and this is something I have never done before but saw it on YouTube, take a large dollop of hair conditioner and spread it all over the surface of the bag rubbing it into the paper. Then let dry...
The faux leather not only feels softer, it moves more like stiff fabric than paper. I plan on using these for journal covers. If you want, you can finish with a coat of acrylic or Mod Podge.
That's all for today, talk with you tomorrow...
